International Confex Event

Can events go ahead? Are events in London happening? - They sure are...events are back and better than ever.

Last Thursday (2nd September) I attended the International Confex Event exploring all things events! Every year the exhibition brings together a large group of event professionals from across the UK to meet with suppliers and discover new venues.

I started off the day by walking around the different exhibition stands and discussing Goho’s upcoming events. From networking with different suppliers, I was able to gain a great insight into new and recently refurbished venues available throughout the country.

International Confex also has a wide range of conferences throughout the day lecturing on different topics such as ‘The New Rules for B2B Sales Teams’ and ‘Designing the Future of Brand Experience’.

My personal favourite lecture was hosted by Mike Fletcher from Mash Media and Siri Brudevold, TikTok’s event coordinator, titled ‘In Conversation with TikTok’. This conference explored ‘hybrid’ events that rose in popularity during lockdown. Despite now being ‘free’, many events are still ‘hybrid’, but is this such a good idea?

Pre-recorded events are ‘safer’ from a PR standpoint however, audiences can tell that they are pre-recorded as they are less organic and therefore harder to engage with from viewers’ perspective. Audiences want to be involved with the event, asking questions in the chatbox and have them answered. This term ‘hybrid’ event also raises some other questions. What audience are you targeting first? Are you catering for your live or virtual viewers? During the lecture, Siri Rudevold suggested that of course, it is possible to do both however, if you want to design a 50/50 hybrid audience then you are creating two events with a higher budget. When creating a hybrid event it is useful to decide which audience is ‘more important’.
