My First Week as Account Executive

After recently graduating from university with a digital marketing degree, I was unsure how different practising marketing in the working world would be in comparison to studying it. I would’ve been lying if I said I wasn’t scared about my first job in marketing, however my first week at Goho reassured me that I was not entering an alien world. In fact, I discovered more parallels between university and work than I initially expected.

I know fellow graduates tend to feel some kind of ‘imposter syndrome’ when starting their first job, but I can assure them that the feeling soon disappears as you begin to recognise concepts and realise you are more than prepared. I was so pleased to see frameworks I used at uni such as content pillars within client strategies, which made me feel at ease and confident in myself. The first week answered all of my work queries and I felt ready to dive into my new role as Account Executive.

On my first day at Goho, Liv eased me into the role by giving me the tools and advice to prepare me for the work I would be undertaking. I was given information on each of the clients Goho works with and the areas I would be working on, such as creating social media content. Eager to start, I jumped straight into creating an Instagram reel about my first week in the role, making sure to film all the key parts of my day. Having only made a few reels before, I had forgotten just how much goes into the process (putting multiple videos together, choosing trending audios, adding text and creating a cover). Nevertheless, it was a really fun activity and got me back into the swing of creating social content. As this was my first piece for Goho’s account, I wanted to make sure I got the style right to avoid my reel standing out (in a bad way). So, I did my research, looked at previous reels and captions, and soon adopted the Goho style, replicating it in my reel. Success! Now that the first piece was complete, I felt even more confident in myself and ready to take on the next challenge. This blog!

Throughout the week, I met the team who were all very welcoming and happy to help me with any questions I had. Learning that Goho has such a supportive and organised team behind them made my first week not only enjoyable but a lot less daunting. The daily catch-up calls gave me a lot of valuable knowledge and my frantic note-taking has provided me with pages of useful information on a range of areas. Key tip: Always take notes in your first week because you will not remember everything you need to instantly. One thing I was told by the team in my first week is that every day is different - for someone who thrives in a changing environment, this was music to my ears. Seeing the variation of clients Goho works with excited me, knowing that one day I could be writing about furniture and the next day fashion, or something completely different like decking.

I’m truly looking forward to getting stuck into my new role and can’t wait to learn more about this fast-paced industry from both clients and my colleagues at Goho.
