Social Media Updates and News
A quick run-down on the latest updates and news from your most used social media platforms.
Instagram Updates for all users
Previously, some features on Instagram have been inaccessible for certain users whether it’s because they don’t have the big blue tick or a certain number of followers.
But… the day has come! The link sticker is now available for all accounts so anyone can share links to their stories. If you have a business account, you can check the content interactions for the number of clicks your link sticker has received. Instagram is also working on different ways to customise the sticker.
Will Facebook still be called Facebook?
As I’m sure by now you’ve all heard that the social media giant Facebook has changed its name to shift away from social media and into ‘the metaverse’. The Facebook social media app will remain as ‘Facebook’ and only the umbrella company, which oversees other apps, will change.
But what is a metaverse you may ask? A metaverse is a VR space where users can interact within a digital space and other users. It is being considered as the future version of the internet where “you’re going to be able to hang out, play games with friends, work, create and more” states the CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, in a recent earnings call. Zuckerberg has also recently mentioned that the metaverse will bring new opportunities to individual artists and creators.
Facebook has also recently launched their #SheMeansBusiness virtual training sessions for female business leaders to sharpen their skills. They currently have a range of videos exploring personal branding, financing, being a boss, building a community and more. It is also a space for entrepreneurial women to network and share advice with one another – celebrating their successes.
LinkedIn updates
LinkedIn has recently added new tools for company pages such as ‘Primary Workspace’ which allows companies to state if their employees are generally remote, hybrid or in the office.
They have also expanded their services marketplace which can facilitate more opportunities for freelancers as they will be able to connect with other freelancers and brands creating more space for networking.
How is TikTok evolving?
TikTok expands beyond mobile platforms and brings their video kit to desktop, web and consoles! Other third-party editing platforms now have a ‘Share to TikTok’ option. This feature can now be seen in software such as Abode Premier Rush, Momento GIF Maker, Picsart and others. This will allow for creators to create ‘more professional’ edits with features which aren’t currently offered with TikTok’s video kit.
What’s new with Twitter?
Twitter has risen to a huge 211 million active users – so if you don’t post regular social media content on Twitter, this might give you a reason to start!
Twitter now allows IOS users to ‘super follow’ select creators. This is a tool for creators to earn money through Twitter as eligible accounts can set a price for their ‘super-follow’ subscribers to pay to view their content.
Twitter also published a short ‘video checklist’ giving tips on how to get the most from videos posted on Twitter.
Pinterest achieves MRC Accreditation for Pin Metrics
What is an MRC Accreditation? The Media Rating Council (MRC) is a US-based firm which manages accreditation for rating and media research purposes.
What does this mean? This will provide more assurance for marketers. MRC Accreditation adheres to industry standards to measure display impressions and clicks. This will filter out any inaccurate traffic from bots essentially making advertising data on Pinterest more reliable.
