Goho Blog - Equal Pay Day on 18th Nov

As a female-led business with a fierce, empowering managing director we are switched on to women in business, their achievements, challenges and everything in between.

This is why we wanted to highlight the UK based Fawcett Society national campaign to raise awareness for equal pay for women which takes place today. The 18th of November marks the day in the year where women effectively, on average, stop earning relative to men because of the gender pay gap.

What is the gender pay gap? It is the difference between the average pay for men and women - this means that women today (18th November) will earn no wage compared to their male counterparts. The team at Fawcett calculated the gender pay gap in the UK for Equal Pay Day which this year is 11.9%, an increase from 10.6% last year.

The ONS Gender Pay Gap in the UK 2021 shows the increase in the gender pay gap, with younger women facing a rising gender pay gap.

Whilst some steps have been made over the last few years to move forward there is still so much more that can be done and unfortunately Covid 19 has sent women’s workforce progress backward.

We all need to be talking about this in order for things to change. If we each take a small step to promote this and ask the right questions together we can make a difference. Here at Goho we are a bright team of 10, and 90% of our team are women meaning we understand first-hand what is like for women in the workplace and we strive to better this environment until we achieve equality.
