4 Lessons Learned From Internship With Goho

I came to Goho the summer before my final year at University; from a list of internship companies recommended by the school, I decided to apply to Goho after reading the job description.

As a student from Asia, studying in a country where English is my second language, I was ecstatic when I passed the interview round with Liv - Operations Director of Goho. It can be said that the opportunity Liv offered me was a "gateway" to my future career because gaining work experience in the UK helps international students like me to showcase experience on my CV.

An internship is a step to transfer from a student to an actual employee; the knowledge learned from university must be skillfully applied by us to solve problems at work. In fact, there were many lessons that I couldn't learn when I was a student, and these are the lessons that I carry with me after my internship experience with Goho.

Lesson 1: Initiative

The most essential and first lesson interns need to learn is to be proactive. I swiftly adapted to the new atmosphere by actively getting to know people, learning about internships, and actively suggesting and working with teammates. Additionally, being proactive can help international students understand what to do when working in an environment with a different culture.

Note: Always keep a little notebook on you to make to-do lists.

Lesson 2: Acquire Expertise by Taking Practical Courses

Real life differs from what is taught in school, so be ready to adjust your perspective and frame of reference. In addition, the quick change in today's culture puts a specific burden on students majoring in Media and Communication, forcing us to adapt quickly and constantly be creative.

What I appreciate most about Goho is that Mariana and Liv stop by every few hours to check on us and ask how we're doing. After work, we frequently receive inquiries such as, "Do you feel like you learned anything today?" This gives me the impression that I must be responsible for my work.

Lesson 3: Establish New Relationships and Connections

I had the chance to meet more colleagues with extensive industry expertise after the internship. I had the opportunity to speak with Emily, a Goldsmiths alumna who studied Media and Communications, and I asked her about the courses and preparation tips she recommended for the final year.

Reminder: Use your time at the company to learn and build a network.

Lesson 4: Give Yourself New Opportunities and Skills

Students should acquire soft skills to boost confidence and begin new careers after graduation.

The internship is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate your skills in addition to learning new things. The value you receive after the internship will always be worth the effort you put in if you consistently work hard and take the initiative in everything.

One of the most amazing internships I had while studying in the UK was my time working at Goho. Liv and Mariana are always dedicated to explaining the tasks of a PR specialist to me. I have had feedback on both the articles and the presentation. I'm pleased that I could contribute in any small way to Goho.

Thanks for everything!
