Staying Epic During the Pandemic
Staying Epic During the Pandemic
Lana Mepham - Marketing & Events Manager @ Goho
We don’t know about you, but we’re a little worn out of constantly seeing negative news. From our social media feeds to our whatsapp groups - from the horrific rise in daily cases to Aunt Julie not finding any eggs!
So to bring a little positivity to your day, we’ve rounded up some awesome things you can get involved in online.
TikTok
Lockdown is the perfect time to get acquainted with one of the fastest growing social media platforms, TikTok. Since its launch, the app has rocketed in popularity boasting 500 million active users worldwide and becoming the most downloaded app on Apple’s App Store. Houseparty indexes high with Gen Zers, representing 41% of total users and, according to the stats, they spend a whopping 52 minutes per day on the platform! Our Marketing & Events Manager (aged 26) is obsessed with the platform. “It’s full of amazing bitesize content, allowing each user to become a creator and express themselves creatively -- I can easily spend an hour on the platform just consuming content -- it makes me want to get up and dance!”.
Online Workouts
Online workouts are everywhere at the minute, and ideal to keep your body and mind active. The Goho team have tested out a fair few already and can highly recommend 1Rebel, who are broadcasting three per day on their Instagram @1Rebel. The workouts are focused on body weight or use items that you can find in your house - so you don’t need a home gym to do them. If you have little ones at home, like our Liv & Roxy, then definitely give Joe Wicks PE classes ago! He’s launched a PE class each morning and will burn through some energy & leave adults a little achy too. 1Rebel are also launching Rebel Lives - hosted each day by one of their trainers expect themes such as discussing mental health during lockdown, cookery masterclasses & live gigs!
Houseparty App
A new one for Goho, Houseparty is a face-to-face social network that makes connecting with friends & family effortless. The app (clues in the name) mimics an actual house party, where users can move from room to room chatting with different groups of friends (up to 8 at one time). The best bit about the app is the games feature - you can play heads up, quizzes and drawing games with your friends using the app. The app has already been downloaded 2 million times during March - and we expect to see lots more in the coming weeks!
Online Pub Quiz
The Alexandra, a Wimbledon pub, is taking to Facebook, Instagram & Twitter to bring its weekly quiz into our homes. The quiz takes place on the Young’s pub’s page every Monday at 8pm. There’s no prizes - it’s the taking part that counts! On the subject of pubs, if you’re missing hanging out in your local and knocking back a beer - Brewdog is turning each of its UK bars into online hangout spaces. Kicking off from 6pm on March 27th the online bars will host virtual beer tastings, home-brew masterclasses, live music, comedy and pub quizzes! Keep an eye on their social media accounts for more details.
