Best London Restaurants Post Lockdown

by Stacey-Rebekka Karlsson, Managing Director @ Goho

It’s September already… does that fill anyone else with utter dread! Yes, it’s less than four months ‘til Christmas.

2020 has been absolutely sh*te hasn’t it. We’ve been robbed of our Spring, our Summer and well, some of us a lot more than that. But let’s be honest, if all we’ve actually lost is a few p*ss-ups in beer gardens (and therefore been saved from the awful hangovers the next day) then it’s not all bad is it?

I’ve talked before about how grateful I am for a lot that has come out of this period so you don’t want to hear more about that. But what I thought you might want to hear a little about, is the wonderful world of food and drink that it’s no secret I partake in, quite strenuously. :)

Since London town re-opened I have been skipping along merrily to anyone that’ll take my booking… sampling the delights, (and let-downs) of this post-lockdown apocalyptic world. Hopefully this’ll save you some time and give you some inspo for date ideas, birthday ideas, just-going-out-for-the-sake-of-it ideas, and if you still want more to chew over, drop me a line… we’d be happy to help with your celebration or event, no matter how small.

Gloria, Shoreditch

Anyone who doesn’t want to eat a Spaghetti Carbonara that is literally made inside a hollowed-out cheese next to your table is just not right in the head. The food here is banging, as are the cocktails, and they’ve got social distancing down to a T with their beautiful booth seating. Book quickly though as this joint is HOT!

Benares, Berkeley Square

Thali, the delightful multi-dish meal served on a serving platter (a thali) so you get to try loads of different curries and accompaniments in one go, is literally the stuff that dreams are made of. AND the bottomless Thali Tuesdays at Benares is no exception. Simply pick veggie or meat and get your munch on.  Yep, they keep topping you up, as much as you want for 90 minutes. You can add bottomless wine, prosecco or beer on too. I kid you not, this place is DIVINE. But wear some sexy and something stretchy as it’s gorgeous inside but the food will make your waistline hurt. They also have perspex screens between tables so that you can be properly socially distanced but your neighbour can see your bulging belly. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

M Victoria/Threadneedle St

Until Eastway Brasserie at the Andaz reopens, this place is my number 1 favourite bottomless brunch spot. The food is delicious, the service is amazing, the venue is so spacious you can sit miles from anyone and you pay for exactly what you want. Eg. You pay for the food you order, and then can opt for bottomless Prosecco for £25, bottomless Veuve Cliquot for £70 or do as I do and go for the bottomless cocktails for £35 - they’re not horrible sweet ones that taste like a melted ice lolly. They’re hardcore, mixologist made bad boys and they just keep coming.

UNI, Victoria

I discovered this little gem thanks to Rishi… his #EatOutToHelpOut scheme coaxed me out, (post 1Rebel ride), yet again. Note. Just seen they’re extending EOTHO thru September! Anyway, where was I... ah yes, post 1Rebel Ride... Rox and I fancied something a bit healthier, with a bit of sass and some ice cold bubbles thrown in. UNI is a decadent mash up of Japanese and Peruvian and boy is it good. The food is delish, service is a bit meh, but the space… the space is MADE for social distancing! We had a little underground cave/table type thing that held our little bubble perfectly. Check it out.

Nhow, Old Street

Now, this place isn’t really at Old Street, its mid-way between Old Street and Angel, It’s also a hotel. But don’t let that put you off. The lobby space is just epic. It’s gorgeous, brand new, loads of kookie art and bits and bobs. Music is fab, drinks are delicious, food is AMAZING and the service is just out of this world. (Like the Big Ben they’ve turned into a space shuttle). The staff all wear masks ALL the time, guests are asked to wear masks when away from their allocated table, and the menu is an as fresh as you like ‘flexitarian’ affair, where you add meat on if you want some to their vegetarian offerings.

It’s a great place if you want to work somewhere other than your house. They do a great co-working rate through Othership where you pay £19 for a desk for the day, unlimited tea, coffee and water and lunch. Use our code for a month’s free membership, and what’s even better is you can cancel any time!

Veluba

Concerned about getting around town whilst managing not to catch Covid? Well fear no more! You don’t need to get on packed tubes now Veluba are in town!

These pedal powered, electrically assisted tricycle cabs (yeah try saying that after a few bevvies) are known as E-Trikes. They have zero-emissions and can use the bicycle lanes, bus lanes, pavements and anywhere else you should want to go AND as if that wasn’t enough to make you feel super high and mighty about helping the environment, they’re made completely of recycled plastic bottles!

Just download their app and get going, just like you would an Uber. (Currently they only ride within 2 miles of Waterloo  - but believe us, that’s way further than you’d think).

Your first ride is free when you download the app (available on the App store and Google Play) so do something good for the environment, and get a Veluba to your post lockdown dine out today.
